Privacy Policy for FretNinja
Effective date: September 18, 2026
Applies to: FretNinja: Guitar Voicings for iOS, published by AppTheory
The short version
FretNinja does not collect, transmit, or store any information about you. It has no account system and makes no network requests of any kind. Saved voicings live on your iPhone and nowhere else.
What we do not collect
Specifically, rather than vaguely — FretNinja does not collect:
- Names, email addresses, or contact information
- Account credentials — the app has no sign-in and no user accounts
- Your saved voicings, progressions, chord searches, or settings
- Device identifiers, advertising identifiers, or IDFA
- Usage analytics, crash reports, session recordings, or heatmaps
- Location data of any kind
- Contacts, photos, calendar, or health data
- Payment or financial information
Permissions FretNinja does not request
FretNinja asks for no system permissions at all.
Two are worth naming explicitly, because a guitar app could plausibly want them and this one does not:
- Microphone. FretNinja produces sound but never listens. It has no tuner, no pitch detection, and no recording feature, and it never requests microphone access.
- Location. Despite the name, FretNinja has nothing to do with geography. The "ghost map" is the faint overlay of a chord's tones across the fretboard. The app never requests your location and has no ability to determine it.
No network, no third parties
FretNinja makes no network requests. It contains no analytics libraries, no advertising networks, no crash reporters, and no third-party SDKs of any kind. Chord voicings, fingerings, and audio are all generated on your device by the app itself.
The app works identically in Airplane Mode, which is the simplest way to verify this for yourself.
Where your data lives
Voicings you save, along with your tuning and display preferences, are stored locally on your iPhone using Apple's standard on-device storage. They are accessible only to the app.
If you have iCloud Backup enabled, FretNinja saved data may be included in your device backup. That backup is handled entirely by Apple under Apple's privacy policy, and AppTheory has no access to it.
Deleting the app deletes your saved voicings. Nothing is stored on a server, so uninstalling FretNinja removes them permanently and we cannot recover them.
Purchases
Purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. Your payment details go to Apple, never to us. We receive only anonymous, aggregate sales figures through App Store Connect — never your name, email, or payment information. Restoring a purchase is handled by your Apple ID and requires no account with us.
Children's privacy
FretNinja collects no data from anyone, and therefore collects no data from children. It complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) by design.
Your rights
Privacy laws including the GDPR and CCPA give you rights to access, correct, delete, and port your personal data. We hold none of yours to act on — you hold all of it, on your device, and can delete it at any time within the app or by deleting the app. We do not sell or share personal information, because we have none.
Changes to this policy
If a future version of FretNinja changes how it handles data, this page will be updated and the effective date revised before that version ships. Material changes will also appear in the app's release notes.
